Honduras Coup Resistance
Violations and militarization will increase as the military coup authors ensure their economic interests, and the Resistance Front advances toward political power.

Today, a National Strike was called in Honduras by the public school teachers and the National Front of Popular Resistance to protest the last two weeks of brutal and fierce repression, the eighteen political prisoners on trial and the attempt of the post-coup regime and international financial institutions to privatize public education.
Miriam Miranda was intentionally fired at with a tear-gas canister, and then singled out and illegally detained, March 28, 2011, in Triunfo de la Cruz, a Garifuna village, North-coast of Honduras. After being denied medical attention for hours, the regime authorities finally, under great national and international human rights pressure, finally took Miriam Miranda to a hospital, under regime custody.
At approximately 6:30 am, March 28th, Garifuna, indigenous and pro-democracy movement leader Miriam Miranda was shot in the stomach with a tear-gas canister and illegally detained by police during a peaceful road occupation in a Garifuna community, Triunfo de la Cruz in Tela Bay, Northern Honduras.
